In recent years, the Ljubljana LGBT Film Festival has established close ties with like-minded festivals around the world, where it not only presents the festival itself but also showcases Slovenian films with LGBT themes. In return, these international festivals curate their own selections for the Ljubljana festival.
In 2023, Slovenian short films and the documentary LGBT_SLO_1984 were screened in Seoul. This year, on 28 June, audiences at the festival Something Like a Film Festival in Kathmandu watched three Slovenian short films: Split Ends by Hannah Koselj Marušič; the award-winning animated film Alma, A Worldly Woman of Indomitable Spirit by Huiqiun Wang and Andrej Kamnik, about the traveller and writer Alma Karlin; and Remembering the Nights in Safe Haven, a Dutch–Slovenian co-production by artist Iztok Klančar.
These titles will soon be joined by four more Slovenian short films as part of the festival's programme at the 15th Rio LGBTQIA+ International Film Festival, taking place in Rio de Janeiro from 2 to 8 July. The selected films are In Between by Petra Hrovatin; the animated film Daisy in Bed by Alen and Robi Predanič; the documentary short Where Do Lesbians Go When We Grow Old? by Andreja Gomišček; and the fiction short Three, directed by Simon Moe.
The Ljubljana festival will be represented in Rio by Aleš Zobec, who will introduce the Slovenian films and present the work of the festival. He will also participate in a panel discussion on LGBT film festivals and take part in selecting Brazilian short films to be screened in Ljubljana this December. The audience will be welcomed by Slovenia's Honorary Consul in Brazil, while the Embassy of Slovenia provided assistance with translations.
This year's festival will screen 25 feature films and 190 short films across a range of programme sections. Alongside the Slovenian focus programme, special national showcases will feature films from Spain, France, Italy, Ukraine, Tunisia, and Norway.
